We've all known friends, neighbors, relatives, or acquaintances who as if sleep-talking while dreaming rattle off a litany of seemingly good accomplishments by government, but never open their eyes to the chains of slavery we are being wrapped in by political solutions. How can we wake up these dear people?
Most of the subjugation is caused by liberal-progressive programs. Liberal-progressives mean well. Their aspirations inevitably sound appealing and are seen by many people as worthy objectives. Their political success is always in proportion to the number of voters who see their intentions as worthy, and the strength of voters' feelings about their aims. Since liberal-progressive end goals are so attractive to most people, fighting their schemes makes liberty lovers look "mean spirited," or at best "obstructionist."
If that wasn't bad enough, liberty advocates have often focused on one or another of the seemingly endless number of liberal-progressive programs and tried to fight it on its merits. Fighting individual liberal-progressive projects is like trying to defeat a many-headed hydra. Cut off one, and two more (or ten more) grow. The number of schemes liberal-progressives can come up with is infinite. And because they invent new causes far faster than anyone can keep up with, they will always be ahead of liberty defenders who would like to slow them down.
It would seem that trying to defend against liberal-progressives is a losing battle. But it need not be. There is a wake-up-call way to answer your friends and neighbors who support liberal-progressive causes.
In the old way of arguing politics we would announce that we disagree, and then attempt to argue our case. In other words, we would set ourselves up as adversaries. The adversarial relationship is felt by the other as resistance. Resistance invites the liberal-progressive supporter to put up defenses and resist back. Due to his defenses, even if our arguments are heard by his ears they do not settle into his mind. Not only do our arguments fail to reach inside him, but his need to reflect resistance back to us only serves to reinforce his inner mindset.
There is a better way. Since we want to reach him, his defenses must first be forestalled. This is accomplished by agreeing with him at first. "I agree with the result you would like to achieve. It would be good if your dream came to pass." In most situations, our agreement will be easy because the causes of liberal-progressives are usually worthy. In some cases, our agreement will feel more like "walking for a moment in the other's shoes" in order to neutralize his defenses.
With defenses down, he is in rapport with us and the next part of our answer will reach him. But the next part of our answer will also shock him and wake him up: "But it's very nasty of you to try to reach your goal by dictatorship."
This will not change the Karl Marx marionettes who believe their ends justify their means. These are the ones who justify dictatorship by blocking out of their minds the nonsensical nature of their self-contradictory announcements: "It's dictatorship by the people." "It's dictatorship for everyone's good."
But the vast majority of people who support liberal-progressive causes simply have never given thought to the deleterious evil of the dictatorship of liberal-progressive programs.
Liberal-progressives constantly throw in our face all the "good" their dictatorship has accomplished. For example, the below quote from a liberal television series:
"The Civil Rights Act has opened many doors for people. A wonderful cause, increasing possibilities, providing opportunities! But why did you feel the need to sell your soul to the devil by becoming a dictator? Wouldn't there have been a better way?"
"Social Security is a marvelous program with sometimes lifesaving results. Too bad you couldn't have worked out voluntary implementation. You've destroyed your honor by using dictatorship."
"Medicare is really helping many people, which is a great outcome. It's just unfortunate you have become no better than a highway robber by funding it through dictatorship."
"Clean air is so healthy for people! Clean air is a worthwhile achievement to rejoice about. But now you've sabotaged your own integrity by becoming a dictator. Wouldn't there have been a moral way to achieve the same goal?"
Maybe the wording of these examples isn't the best, but there are many, many ways to word an answer which first disarms the defenses of liberal-progressive supporters and then points out how depraved they have made themselves with their dictatorship. In fact, if we held a contest for the most powerfully effective wording, we could probably create some truly eye-opening phrases.
But you get the idea. First agree.... then shake them awake.
