How Freedom Lovers Sabotage Themselves

In politics, freedom lovers are often heard saying things like, "The lesser of two evils is still an evil. I'm not voting for a 'half-way to freedom' candidate."

This is called self-sabotaging arrogance.

It is the height of arrogance to assume you know in advance that a half-way candidate cannot be taught, cannot change his mind, and will never fight for freedom.

It is the height of arrogance to assume you know for sure a politician will not shift his thinking in the direction of his supporters. In the real world, politicians pay attention to who is supporting them, and they shift toward supporting freedom if they are being supported by freedom advocates.

"But it gives me ego satisfaction to know I am supporting only perfect candidates."

Yes ... and the road to hell is paved with ego satisfactions. Stubbornly hold onto purism, and let candidates who are the greater of evils win and spread their evil all the faster, all the deeper, making it even harder for freedom to win.

Let's suppose the most expert doctor in his field said to you: "This medicine is not the final cure. It will only slow down the spread of the illness. If you don't take this medicine, you will die very quickly. If you do take it, you might live long enough to see a real cure developed."

For sure, you will be a purist and decline the medicine ... right?

The device which more deeply prepares freedom lovers for success, A Course in Miracles , talks about our ultimate need to free ourselves from every kind of slavery:

You have been told to bring the darkness to the light, and guilt to holiness. And you have also been told that error must be corrected at its source. Therefore, it is the tiny part of your self, the little thought that seems split off and separate, that the Holy Spirit needs. The rest is fully in God's keeping, and needs no guide. But this wild and delusional thought needs help, because, in its delusions, it thinks it is the Son of God, whole and omnipotent, sole ruler of the kingdom it set apart to tyrannize by madness into obedience and slavery.
